About Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary

The Great Rann of Kutch is a magnificently beautiful place and a must-see on your visit. What makes it even better is that it is the home of the rare wild ass, and the area has been declared the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary. It is one of the largest seasonal saline wetlands, with an average water depth between 0.5 and 1.5 metres. By October–November each year the rain water dries up and the entire area turns into a saline desert; the marshy Rann becomes pure white and flat to the horizon, with a shimmering mirage forming like an illusory lake.
